Pterygoid Implant

Pterygoid implants are a special and unique type of implants. They are used in the back of the jaw (in the absence of back teeth) as an anchorage for bridges on one side of the jaw or for an all-on X solution. Their use avoids complicated bone reconstruction procedures (e.g., the so-called “sinus lift”) and provides the opportunity to restore a full arch of teeth for patients with very severe bone and gum atrophy. They are often a “last resort” when no other type of implant can be used.
