Gum shaping is a procedure that ensures the longevity and durability of implants. Healthy and properly shaped gum around the crown, bridge on the implant is a prerequisite for the implant's survival in the mouth.
The procedure involves screwing in a suitable screw to shape the gum after it has been slightly incised under light local anesthesia after a period of 4 months from the insertion of the implant. After a period of 2–4 weeks, the gum is properly shaped and ready to take an impression or digital scan for a crown, or bridge. The screw(s) are unscrewed, and special impression or scanning transfers are screwed into the implants in their place.
In order to reduce the number of procedures (and possible stress for the patient), we try to place the gum shaping screws immediately during the implant procedure when the anesthesia necessary for implant placement is still in effect. In this case, the gum is shaped in parallel/simultaneously with the process of integrating the implant into the bone (4 months).
